Thursday Three-Way: New Knitwear

As we are now fully into Autumn (and it looks like the weather has finally realised it too) I thought I would do a three-way post on my new Next cardigan. I got this cardigan a couple of weeks ago and I love the little flick detail in the navy wool and the elbow.

I have pretty much been wearing this cardigan over most outfits the last couple of days as it's turned so cold but here I have narrowed down 3 looks you might like to try.

Geek Chic

Here I decided to embrace the elbow patches and go with the whole geek look. However, I made sure I kept it chic with high heels and a cute blouse.

Nothing says geek chic like socks and shoes. It's an acquired taste but I think these cute school style socks in cream go well with the brown ASOS wedges - plus they keep my feet warm!

Skinny Diesel jeans and the cute buttoned blouse from Topshop help take the look from geek overkill to more chic. The giant glasses (which are super strong prescription btw) complete the look!

Winter Warmer

I think this next outfit is perfect for a walk in the crisp Autumn air - maybe I'll wear it when I walk the dogs?

The flat boots were my buy of the year last winter - just £18 from Florence and Fred at Tesco. They are super comfy and look great over jeans or with opaque tights and a dress as shown here. As the nights draw in, it's probably best to wear a scarf too - this furry leopard one is super cosy!

Wooly work wear

With my final look I tried to make the cardigan a little more formal to create a look more suitable for work.

Pairing it with tailored trousers makes it seem more smart - as do the heeled court shoes. A Paul Smith t-shirt with a colour print stops the outfit looking too drab.

I could have gone on and on and bascially put this cardigan over every outfit! The other day at work, someone said they didn't even own a single cardigan - I just can't get over this!! Not one! For me, they are an essential for warmth and style!

Lots of love

Monday Makeover: Chanel Soleil Indentite Facial Self-Tanner

Hello everyone!

I don't know about you but despite the recent heatwave, as the darker evenings are upon us I'm beginning to feel a bit concerned about the impending winter months! The winter weather can cause havoc on our skin with the central heating and bitter winds sucking the moisture from our skin and the grey skies and moody clouds draining every ounce of colour from our face! Are you all feeling depressed now? Well... don't be, because thanks to Chanel we can combat these issues toute suite!

Back in May, following a trip to visit my brother in the Caribbean, I purchased Chanel Soleil Indentite in an attempt to keep my face as bronzed as it was after three weeks in the Caribbean sun! I had never used a self-tanner on the face so was slightly anxious about orange streaks, but I had read some good reviews about this product and it seemed easy to apply.  Well, I'm so glad I didn't let my nerves put me off as this has been one of the best beauty purchases I have made. It has kept me with a golden tan throughout the summer (as we all know we can't rely on the sun!) and I feel confident that it will keep me with a glow throughout the autumn/winter/spring months to come!

The product comes in two shades: Golden and Bronze. I read reviews and spoke to the Chanel beauty assistant and everyone seems to root for the Bronze colour.  It didn't disappoint me.  It came out as a rich colour and blended well with my skin tone and tan (at the time!) looking like I had a spent the day in the sun - totes natural!  As with most fake tanners you can apply more regularly to build the colour or less frequently if you just want a hint of colour!

Chanel Soleil Indentite Perfect Colour Self-Tanner Bronze at Boots £29
(I always try to buy products like this at Boots as it keeps your Advantage Card topped up!)

I apply the product at night and make sure to wash my hands thoroughly after application. The product is a creamy white colour,  goes on easily and smells like cupcakes! I have never had a streak problem and I don't take particular care in applying - I just apply like I would any facial moisturiser! It dries really quickly and adds moisture to the skin.

To make the decision about which shade to use think about what shade you turn when you tan in the sun - does the sun turn you more of a goldeny yellow or more of a bronzed brown? If you are still not sure, you could ask your Chanel beauty assistant for samples.

So there we have it. Winter, we show no fear armed with our Chanel Soleil Indentite!

Lots of sunny love

Monday Makeover: Silver Shampoo

This week’s Monday Makeover comes with a difficult confession. Who’s that girl? believes in total honesty with our readers and so we feel it’s best to deal with this issue now so we can all move on. Please, sit down. Now, you may have seen the pictures of me on the Thursday Three-Way – proudly flaunting my platinum blonde locks. However, and this is hard to admit, I am not a natural blonde. There, I said it. You know. For 6 years now I have been having my roots bleached every 4-6 weeks to erase all trace of the mousey brown that is desperately fighting it’s way out.

Ok, ok. It’s really not that much of a shock. Who actually has platinum hair? Apart from Malfoy obv?

I am sure I am not alone in the bleaching world and so this post is dedicated to assisted blondes who want to keep their hair looking icy/ashy/white/platinum and not yellow/gold.

You know the amazing feeling of stepping out of the salon without a trace of roots and that perfect post-toner blonde? However, you probably also experience the slight dulling a few washes later and then the roots start to creep through and you tell everyone for the 1000th time you’re sick of blonde and are definitely, definitely going back to brown next time (just me?)

However, I am here to share a way of at least combatting the gold tones (I have no cure for roots but am always interested if anyone else has any suggestions?!) with the magical powers of silver shampoo you can keep the brightness for longer.

Silver shampoo is actually a deep purple/blue in colour (be careful of shower curtain staining/carpet staining if you are particularly enthusiatic with the application). It works to neutralise yellows and bring out the vibrant white Debbie Harry style.

My fave is Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde shampoo. In a salon this is about £10 but I am sure you can get it online for cheaper (I have in fact just discovered they do 1000ml bottle). I found this shampoo had the most instantly noticable effect on me and really brought out the colour – it also made my hair look pretty glossy which is difficult on platinum blonde.

You must be careful not to use it daily as it will eventually give your hair a lilac tint (unless you like the blue rinse look?) but used once or twice a week will keep your colour looking fresh.

Another silver shampoo I rate is Schwarzkopf Color Freeze Shampoo. I find I can use this one about 4/5 times a week without any blue appearing in my hair. I would say it is more of a daily shampoo so you go through a lot of it.

I’ve also recently discovered a really cheap silver shampoo called Touch Of Silver Daily Maintenance available in Boots for about £2, which, as the name suggests, can be used daily. They often have it in a 2 for 3 so I get the conditioner and either the twice weekly shampoo (which I think it much more effective than the Daily Maintenance) or the dry shampoo too (I love dry shampoo as I find it also lightens by roots when I reach week 4!).

I would consider myself quite the connoissuer since I have been blonde so long, have used a wide range of colour shampoos and wash my hair way too many times a week. However, I am always on the look out for the best blonde shampoos so if you have any suggestions please let us know!
